In Golinski v. United States Office of Personnel Management, an amicus brief has been filed by 70 businesses, trade groups, and cities in support of the plaintiff, Golinski, and marriage equality.

Some of the high profile companies and municipal employers include: Microsoft, CBS, Levi Strauss, Starbucks, Viacom, Electronic Arts, eBay, Xerox, Google and the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston and Seattle. This is important because while the Administration is making a case for "equal protection under the law" these employers are making one based on economics.

It's time to move beyond grandstanding and look at the facts of the ACA and what it will cost us if we continue to have the nation's highest rate of uninsured residents.

First off, it should be emphasized that the governor's pronouncement was not the final word on this matter - any possible expansion of Medicaid must first come through the Legislature. Thankfully, the governor backtracked on his original stance and said he would work with the Legislature.

The Bruce and Human Drug Co. in Wills Point Texas is the oldest continually family-owned pharmacy in the state. The pharmacy has been in Adele Monning's family an impressive 133 years. Under Texas' dire health care system, which includes a recent switch to managed care for Medicaid patients, this pharmacy and others like it may be in jeopardy.

Big news for State Representative Pete Gallego in his run-off for CD-23 today: San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro has endorsed Gallego as the strongest Democrat in the race, both as a public servant and candidate.

We all saw earlier this week that Rick Perry is just going to pretend that Healthcare Reform doesn't apply to him, in a way that will seriously cost Texans, too. Unsurprisingly, Texas Democrats have come out swinging.
