Why Aren't There Cameras In MN Courtrooms? Judge Gearin Says Media Partly To Blame

Minnesota is in the middle of an experiment that allows cameras in the courtroom in some cases. However, that experiment is set to expire later this year. Judge Kathleen Gearin has had cameras in her courtroom for some high profile cases and thinks they are a good thing...which she says may get some other judges mad at her.

Gearin says even though under the experiment, media can ask to have a camera in the courtroom, she says they don't because they've been told no for so long.

Gearin made the comments before the Minnesota Freedom of Information award was given out. This year's Finnegan FOI Award recipient is Ms. Michele Timmons, the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.
