The stats from Wendy's report are impressive: 85 percent of her 84,704 individual donations were under $50, as over 71,843 people supported her campaign. Over the weekend, filing in Texas for the 2014 general election officially began. Between the two major parties, 82 candidates filed paperwork to officially become candidates. Leading each of their parties, Sen. Wendy Davis (D) and Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) were both at their respective state party offices on the first day, making their expected 2014 face-off for Texas governor official.

A new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll out Monday shows Greg Abbott at 40 percent to Wendy Davis' 35 percent. A full 20 percent of voters are still undecided. An early October poll from Texas Lyceum showed Davis trailing by eight — 29-21 — with 50 percent of voters saying they had not yet decided.

Just weeks after Greg Abbott tweeted his personal thanks to a supporter who called Wendy Davis a "retard," Abbott's top political adviser has tweeted an article calling Wendy Davis "too stupid to be governor". Dave Carney (Twitter handle, @granitewinger), the previous top adviser to all of Rick Perry's campaigns, tweeted about the article Wednesday morning.
