Countries in Asia and Africa Pledge 'Urgent' Measures to Stop Elephant Poaching
Key African elephant range states including Gabon, Kenya, Niger and Zambia and ivory transit states Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia, and ivory destination states, including China and Thailand, have agreed to treat the illegal ivory trade as a "serious crime." This will add international cooperation in the punishment of traffickers, and is just part of the pledge announced Wednesday.
