IL Court Denies Motion to Stay Marriage Cases
Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division denied a motion to stay the cases brought by Lambda Legal and the ACLU of Illinois seeking marriage for same-sex couples. The motion attempted to delay any action in the case pending decisions in two federal marriage cases up for review in the SCOTUS: United States v. Windsor and Hollingsworth v. Perry.

Corrected Death Certificate Issued to Iowa Same-Sex Parents

Under Iowa law, vital records including death certificates reflect legal parentage, and both spouses are parents to any child born during a marriage regardless of whether they have a biological relationship to the child. In March 2012, the Iowa Attorney General’s office filed court documents saying that the state will continue to refuse an accurate death certificate to Jenny and Jessica Buntemeyer, asserting that it was correct in erasing Jenny’s name.
