Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer ended months of speculation about her political future on Wednesday when she announced that she will not seek a third term in office. The Arizona Constitution limits governors to two terms, but the Republican governor and her advisers have kept alive a scenario in which she might mount a longshot legal challenge to seek another four years in office.
In a speech at the University of Miami, Hillary Rodham Clinton applauded Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's refusal to sign onto a hateful 'religious freedom' bill that would have made it easier to discriminate against gay couples. Clinton also promoted civic participation, and talked on a range of foreign policy issues.
Both Missouri houses have appointed panels to prepare Medicaid "reform" legislation for the 2014 session. Sadly, the so-called reforms could be almost as bad as going without Medicaid entirely.
The immigration reform package as outlined -- absent what Rachel Maddow has called the "Jan Brewer clause" -- has the potential to make real change in the lives of the undocumented by regularizing their status and offering a pathway to legality, but those are not the only issues in play.
