MN Voter ID Amendment Head: Voter Fraud Was Partly Responsible For Defeat

In the wake of the defeat of the Voter Restriction Amendment, Minnesota Majority's Dan McGrath has been doing some soul-searching. Yesterday, he posted a lengthy apology at True North to share some of his conclusions:

Prop 32 is a Threat to American Democracy

The San Bernadino Sun says Proposition 32 prohibits unions and corporations from using payroll-deducted funds for political purposes, which on the surface sounds fair and balanced. But 99.9 percent of California corporations don't use payroll deduction for political giving; they would still be allowed to use their corporate profits to influence elections.
Instead, Proposition 32 unfairly singles out and limits the voices of teachers, nurses and firefighters who keep us safe. It takes away the ability of these everyday heroes to speak out on issues that matter to us all, like cuts to schools, police and fire response times, workplace safety, consumer protections, and homeowner rights.

Obama - The Closer

This is perhaps Obama's best articulation of the key question in this election. Do Americans truly want a society where it's anything goes and every man for himself, or one where everyone plays by the same rules and we all have a fair shot at success? That's what all this talk of taxes, healthcare, etc. boils down to. You're on your own, vs. we're all in this together?

MN Voter ID Campaign Exploits Veteran Sympathies in New Billboard

Driving down I-94 over the weekend, I saw an odd new billboard. The billboard says VOTE YES and features a small image of a woman holding a flag and hugging a man in military fatigues. There's absolutely no indication of what the man and woman have to do with voter restriction. To me, they just seemed like random patriotic imagery.
A quick search revealed that MPR actual...

Romney Attempted To Defund MS Program as Governor

In July of 2003, a mere 7 months after taking office, Romney took out the hatchet.
"(10) $162,368 for the MS PASS program, so-called, as previously established at the department of public health. Said funds shall be expended to maximize matching dollars to be used for services provided by the program as managed by the Central New England chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
[The Governor disapproved this item.]"

Volunteer Spokespeople Paid to Lie

Repackaging Mitt

Up until now, Romney’s stories on the campaign trail have been about business successes — people who started businesses in garages and grew their companies into global giants, entrepreneurs who succeeded because of grit and determination, millionaires who began poor. Horatio Alger updated.
Curiously absent from these narratives have been the stories of ordinary Americans caught in an economy over which they have no control. That is, most of us.
At least until now.

Romney: Both President Obama and I Care - DNC: Half True

Romney: Both President Obama and I Care - DNC: Half True
According to the Washington Post's Greg Sargent, Mitt Romney is pulling all of his existing advertising in favor of the ad below, which seems to be aimed at reversing the damage caused by Romney's "47 percent" remarks. In the ad, Romney says "President Obama and I both care about poor and middle-class families.
Unfortunately for Romney, the DNC has already prepared their own ad in response. It contrasts Romney's new ad with some of the things he's said throughout the campaign, reminding voters of exactly why he has to run his new ad in the first place. In ends with a brutal skewering of the Romney slogan: "Believe in (half of) America.

Republican Platform: Road Map to Dismantle Workers’ Rights

The basic message of the Republican platform on labor issues is this: Rights are there to be taken from workers and given to the 1 percent.
Steven Greenhouse of The New York Times says the Republican platform “calls for numerous steps that could significantly weaken America’s labor unions.”
Just what does the platform say about workers’ rights, unions, job safety, wages and more?
