The most recent battle in the conservative attack on teachers’ unions erupted in Loveland’s Thompson School District. The fight comes in the wake of similar — and perhaps politically connected — squabbles in Jefferson County and Douglas County where conservative board members have tried to bulldoze the unions — and in JeffCo may get recalled instead.

Roan Plateau Drilling Deal Hailed as Win-Win Energy and Environment
FRISCO, Colo.  — A 15 year battle over fossil fuel drilling on northwest Colorado’s remote and rugged Roan Plateau ended last week with the type of compromise that’s rare in energy showdowns.
Under the court-approved deal, the Bureau of Land Management will develop a new plan for the Roan that would protect the most important natural areas atop the 34,000 acre plateau while enabling some drilling in other areas, especially around the base of the plateau.
Energy companies agreed to avoid building roads and drill pads in the plateau’s most sensitive

Colorado Attorney General Seeks to Suspend Gay Marriage Cases
Attorney General John Suthers, acknowledging the altered “reality of the legal landscape” brought to Colorado by recent federal court rulings, announced he is asking judges to suspend all litigation in gay marriage cases wending their way through the state and federal judicial systems here until higher courts decide with finality on the constitutionality of state gay marriage bans like the one voted into the Colorado constitution in 2006.
