Desperation after a five year drought in Syria had agriculturalists tapping wells with a demand far above mother nature's supply. The results? Crop failures reached 75 percent, an estimated 85 percent of live stock perished, a large number of farmers abandoned their farms in search of non-existent inner-city jobs...and one civil war that might just ignite global warfare.

Why do so many people accept a theory for which there is no scientific evidence while rejecting a serious and potentially catastrophic phenomenon that can be easily observed and for which overwhelming evidence has been building for decades? In the case of chemtrails, science denial is a wacky distraction but, in the case of climate change denial, it's a barrier to addressing an urgent, critical problem.

While Grover Norquist's Taxpayer "Protection" Pledge might be the most famous public promise signed by politicians, it's not the only pledge pitting big business' interests against that of the American people. The New Yorker this week is reporting on a pledge sponsored by the Koch Brothers' Americans for Prosperity that demands inaction by Congress on climate change regulations.

Steve Milloy, the former Big Tobacco flack who now runs the trashy haven for climate denial JunkScience.com, is waging a veritable war on the E.P.A. for their research on the effects of smog (or soot, or fine particulates, or PM 2.5 if you want to get really technical) on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
