NRA Scuttles Universal Background Checks In MN House

After making a packed hearing room wait for about an hour, Representative Michael Paymar (DFL-St. Paul), announces an action that means he is abandoning his attempt to require background checks for virtually all gun purchases. Paymar's bill with the universal background checks faced opposition from the National Rifle Association and all of the Republicans and two Democrats on the committee were going to vote the NRA's way. So Paymar laid the bill over, a maneuver which will allow him to craft a compromise bill that only does background checks for gun show sales.
