Governor Dayton Unveils His MN Budget Proposal - Full News Conference

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton today made good on a campaign promise and proposed raising income taxes by two percent on the top two percent of income earners in Minnesota. The Governor says the higher tax rate would apply to people making more than $150,000 a year and couples making more than $250,000 a year. He also proposed expanding the sales tax to clothing, food and prescription medicines, while at the same time lowering the sales tax rate to 5.5%. Purchases of clothing, food and prescription medicines under $100 would still be exempt from the sales tax.

Dayton also proposed property tax relief, giving homeowners a $500 rebate.
