Bay Localize and the Victory Garden Foundation present Seeds & Weeds at TMC Garden
Solving the challenges before us starts in transforming our own neighborhoods and honoring the important role each person plays in creating a vibrant and thriving community. People’s Victory Gardens sponsored by Victory Garden Foundation are community gardens built by the people, for the people. These community gardens are open to the public without charge. A little work and a lot of harvest are shared. These gardens are not just food growing spaces; but community growing spaces and examples of resilience and sustainability.
Teaming with Bay Localize and its Green Your City program to "grow" community resilience by confronting the economic impacts of climate change and peak oil on low-income families affected by rising food prices - is a synergistic combination. Together Bay Localize and the Victory Garden Foundation demonstrate how cities like Oakland can meet the basic needs of food, water, and energy locally and sustainably. The "Seeds and Weeds at TMC Garden" project invites Oaklanders to roll up their sleeves, get dirty, collaborate, create, compost, grow food, learn, HAVE FUN and witness making change by your own hands.
Please join us to "weed out" the effects of climate instability by "seeding" solutions to boost our city's capacity to provide for everyone's needs sustainably and equitably. Starting at 9am on Saturday July 28th our service projects will begin at the Telegraph Ministry Center Garden: 5316 Telegraph Ave Oakland, CA 94609. Please sign-up by July 21st so that we may plan for your presence and a great volunteer experience.
