Claire McCaskill

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) is the latest politician to endorse marriage equality, just days before the Supreme Court will hear two landmark cases about the legality of gay marriage. She made her endorsement on Tumblr, just before a post about her husband's frittata.

But, remember all those guys who recently said some horrible things about whether rape survivors should have access to abortion care? Well, pro-choice voters spoke out yesterday and sent them all packing.

Evidently, for some, Todd Akin's (R) crazy talk isn't as palatable as Mitt Romney's (R) mendacity.

Claire McCaskill's campaign released three ads today going after Todd Akins' "Legitimate Rape" comments very directly:

A mailing arrived today on behalf of Todd Akin (R-MO) from CitizenLink, an entity associated with the James Dobson founded right wingnut group Focus on the Family.

Todd Akin is out with a fanciful new ad. In it he claims that, "federal stimulus spending 'made McCaskill rich.'" (Not to distract from the main point, but wasn't she rich before the stimulus?) Apropos the ad, Akin asserts:
... Claire McCaskill is on record for going through the stimulus line by line, and stated that the stimulus was solely for creating jobs and stimulating the economy, [...]. Now we know that McCaskill's family business received $1 million of taxpayer money from the stimulus bill that she voted for. I voted against this bill because I did not believe it would help the economy and because pork-barrel spending can neither stimulate the economy nor create jobs.

Todd Akin spoke at locally organized open candidate forum in downtown Clinton, Missouri this evening. From his campaign it was advertised as one of the stops on his bus tour across the state.

Now that Todd Akin (R-Mo.) has passed the deadline for withdrawal from the Missouri Senate Race, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) has released a new TV ad that mentions several of Akin's more controversial comments including the highly publicized comment that "legitimate rape" does not result in pregnancy. Some have speculated that Senator McCaskill's Campaign held back from highlighting Akin's rape comments in hopes of keeping him in the race after the Republican National Committee pulled their funding in the wake of negative national attention.
