A combination of pesticides, pathogens and a lack of pollen-producing flowers is causing a serious decline in the population of bees and other critical pollinators in Minnesota and across the nation, a House committee heard Monday. Video from the testimony is alarming, especially as many biologists consider bees to be a ringing alarm for the environment at large.

A Third of All Bee Colonies in the US Died Last Winter
Nearly a third of managed honey bee colonies were lost this past winter, the United States Department of Agriculture, the Bee Informed Partnership and the Apiary Inspectors of America (AIA) found, a 42 percent increase in loss over the previous winter.
