Senator Sessions Calls Food Stamps A "Moral" Issue - & He Opposes Them

Every time Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III opens his mouth on the Senate floor, Alabama's national image sinks a little lower.  In the past few months, he's filibustered the Buffet Rule and protected subsidies for Big Oil.  Now, he's trying to kill the Food Stamp program.

"It's precisely this kind of thinking that has bled our treasury of money that we need to pay for the demands that this country has. I also think it's a moral issue," Sessions said. "Is our national goal to place as many people on welfare, food stamp support, as we can possibly put on that program? Is that our goal? Is that a moral vision for the United States of America, just to see how many people we can place in a situation where they're dependent on the federal government for their food? I just ask that. I think we should wrestle with that question."

Um Senator... people are "dependent" on the government for food because they don't have jobs. And they don't have jobs because the Wall Street barons (those folks you & your cohort "Big Dick" Shelby are so worried about) drove the economy into the ditch.  People also don't have jobs because you & your entire party is more interested in defeating President Obama than in passing a jobs bill.

But, of course, why would you worry about any of that?  You've done pretty darn well financially in this down economy, haven't you?  Those millions in assets you have mean that you'll never have to worry about choosing between food, rent, and prescription drugs and can instead sit in judgement on the down & out.

What's actually "immoral" is for Sessions & his GOP buddies to even pretend that they actually care about what happens to the poor & middle class in this country.  They're the senators of the 1%, by the 1%, & for the 1%.

And apparently, they aren't ashamed to admit it.
