Have you ever seen a 50-foot protest sign? We made one to welcome Guinta and his supporters as they drove into the NH Fisher Cats stadium this past Sunday. Over 50 people came out on a hot July afternoon to speak out against Rep. Guinta on everything from his votes for the Ryan budget, anti-woman bills, anti-environment legislation, anti-worker proposals, and anti-senior policies.
We had veterans, students, union workers, retirees, and we even had a musician and a DJ provide music for the event. We even had an appearance from former Senate Majority Leader and Portsmouth radio host Burt Cohen and former Manchester Dems chair and current Channel 23 TV personality Bob Backus. Mark Provost of Occupy New Hampshire came out, and brought out several other occupiers who stood with us in the hot July sun.
The responses we got from passersby were overwhelmingly positive. People driving by honked their horns, gave us thumbs-up, admired our giant sign and our props, and the foot traffic asked us more questions about the Congressman's votes. If they didn't already, the city of Manchester definitely knows now that there's lots of folks who don't appreciate Frank Guinta's regressive, extremist agenda.
The first 50 volunteers who showed up got a free ticket to the baseball game, and some of our "players" who were posing at the viz to "strike out Frank Guinta" got inside with their uniforms on. Because we all know Guinta goes to bat for the 1%.
Here are some of the best photos we got from the event. Enjoy!
