National Spotlight Briefly Shines on Libby Szabo During RNC

Anne Romney took the stage at the Republican National Convention in Tampa tonight, waxing lyrically about love, her relationship, and her husband's qualifications for the White House. During her remarks, the camera cut several times to the audience when, lo and behold, it turned on Colorado State Representative Libby Szabo.
What made Szabo cheer oh-so-madly? The environment, certainly. But it's fitting the camera turned on Szabo and her ecstasy following Romney's quotation of biblical scripture, John 6:38's "Give and it shall be given unto you."
That's because Szabo knows a thing or two about the Bible! She's married, remember, to a preacher who believes that Barack Obama is the anti-christ.

Sacramento County Opposes Plan to Build Peripheral Tunnels

Sacramento County has joined other Delta region cities and counties, family farmers, fishermen, Indian Tribes, environmentalists and Southern California ratepayers in the battle to stop the Governor's plan to build peripheral tunnels to divert more water to corporate agribusiness and southern California.
On July 24, 2012, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the currently proposed draft Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP). "The current plan proposes alternatives and mitigation for the construction of a major water conveyance system in the Delta with little regard to the ongoing concerns expressed by the County of Sacramento," according to a statement from the County.

Clovis School District: Sex Education that Gets an 'F'

California state law mandates that sexual health education in public schools be comprehensive, medically accurate, science-based, and bias-free. So why are Clovis Unified high schools teaching teens from a book that makes no mention of condoms, even in chapters about HIV/AIDS and on preventing STDs and unintended pregnancy?
Recent events, such as Representative Akin's ill-informed statements about reproductive biology and rape - put the issue in a stark light. The brand of sex ed that Clovis high schools are peddling is putting teens' health at risk - it's dangerous, unlawful, and could have serious consequences if it is not stopped.

Is Gov. Romney Endorsing Creationism?

Gov. Jindal (R-LA) has been Romney's education surrogate on the campaign trail this summer but there now appears to be a really big problem with his choice and perhaps his own views on science.
Gov. Jindal is a creationist even though he holds a degree in biology from Brown University. More importantly, he signed into law a voucher bill that allows Louisiana to spend public education dollars at private religious schools that specifically teach students creationism is science and evolution is nonsense.

Romney on Public Financing — It's Deja Vu All Over Again

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee said some interesting things about campaign finance on Sunday, telling a Fox News interviewer that he “absolutely” would like to run for re-election in 2016 using public financing rather than relying on private fundraising.
The money chase of the 2012 campaign, which features a seemingly endless stream of closed-door events in which candidates and political action groups extract large checks from wealthy donors, “increases the potential of money having an influence in politics,” Romney said.
