Mary Sue McClurkin Thinks Fetuses Are Organs! We Couldn't Make This Up!

Photo by C. FinkeMary Sue McClurkin is a rabid pro-birther, Alabama's ALEC Chairman and Republican Rep. for Indian Springs. She told the Montgomery Advertiser on February 17, 2013:

“When a physician removes a child from a woman, that is the largest organ in a body,” McClurkin said in an interview Thursday. “That’s a big thing. That’s a big surgery. You don’t have any other organs in your body that are bigger than that.”

Mary Sue! Go to college, read a few books and stop trying to write the law. Please. They may even have picture versions of Gray's Anatomy now.

Abortion is not a "big surgery."  It is not really even a "surgery" at all in the sense laymen think of the term, for example: cutting someone open. It is also universally recognized as one of the safest procedures in medicine.

Now about that huge organ: It might be necessary in your case to mention that a fetus isn't an organ at all. Otherwise, your arguments about its "personhood" fall a little flat, don't you agree? Allow me to enlighten you further: the average abortion occurs at 10 weeks. At that point, the fetus is 1.5 inches long and weighs about 14 ounces.

Yes, Mary Sue. Really. I promise. It says so in books. You don't have to take this on faith.

We want to help, Mary Sue. Really. Because you are sitting down in Montgomery writing law. You are sitting down in Montgomery meddling in the physician-patient relationship. You are meddling in things about which you have no knowledge whatsoever, and that means you are a danger to society.
