Lesia Liss' tremendously awful judgment

Reasonable minds can disagree reasonably, and that includes on the issue of abortion. That is, just because Lesia Liss sold out her gender in getting behind the GOP's "gallop towards the Middle Ages" package of bills last week is no reason to simply vote for Jon Switalski, her opponent in the upcoming Democratic primary. No, the reason to vote her out of office is that she's apparently not smart enough to know when to buck her own party.

In defending her vote for the abortion clinic regulations, Liss  said her district’s conservative Reagan Democrats oppose abortion and want the practice restricted.

Liss believes Brown and Byrum have blown the whole incident out of proportion to gain national media attention. On Monday, female Democratic lawmakers joined playwright Eve Ensler in a politically-charged enactment of “The Vagina Monologues” on the Capitol steps before a crowd of about 3,000.

Reagan hasn't been president for 30 years, an entire generation. They were defined as people who voted for Kennedy in '63, and then for Reagan in '80. In other words, they're people who are today either dead or will be tomorrow. And, Lesia Liss sold out women to court them ... for a Democratic primary. Or, so she says.

“I assume they’re using this ‘war on women’ title to try to get women to come out and vote,” Liss told The Detroit News. “Look how many angry women came to the Capitol steps.”

I believe it was Joe D. who posted to Facebook or Twitter that Liss' next job will be with a hospice, where she'll meet up with her political career. That's really just a smart way to sum this comment up. If Liss were a dude, the metaphor of sticking his dick in a hornet's nest would also work.

But, to understand how mind blowing it is that a Democrat would side with Republicans on this, you have to look at and understand the scope of just who has criticized the Republican Party over this. We already know that Jon Stewart led off his show the other day with this. We already know that they've lost Bill Ballenger on this. We already know that they've taken heat from every female columnist who writes about political issues in the state. What you might not yet know is that they've also lost the Detroit News on this.

Michigan's lawmakers have enough to do without getting caught up in this war. Let the medical profession sort it out. These abortion bills are of dubious benefit and might be harmful in some ways. They should be scrapped.

This is the time Lesia Liss picks to essentially publicly disown the Democratic Party, in defence of a Republican-ordered two-person gag order Bill Ballenger called unprecedented stemming from a debate over Republican-sponsored bills that the conservative Detroit News editorial page called an overreach and ought to be scrapped.

This is the real reason to bounce her from office ... it's not her politics, it's her astounding awful sense of political judgment.
