Historic Election Protection Effort for 2012 Election

This year will mark the greatest election protection effort for the November elections in US history.
A national non-partisan coalition effort is underway to provide eligible voters with accurate information, including whether a voter is registered, how to register and where to go to vote. 866-OUR-VOTE was put together by the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, including state partners across the country and over 10,000 volunteers.

Wisconsin Election Protection is the state affiliate locally, including partners like American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU-Wisconsin), American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), Voces de la Frontera, Wisconsin Association for Justice and many others.

The goal of 866-OUR-VOTE is to provide accurate and credible information for people to get to the polls. Combatting what Ann Jacobs, an attorney working with Wisconsin Election Protection, says has been an effort nationally to suppress eligible voters from getting to the polls.

These attempts vary from Voter ID legislation, physical intimidation and "voter fraud is a felony" billboards.

Wisconsin Election Protection in partnership with 866-OUR-VOTE is working to provide accurate and credible information to voters in an era of escalating efforts to suppress voters.

"The right to vote means very little if people can't use that right," said Jacobs.
