Dakota Indian riders honor the 38

About 100 Dakota Indians and supporters ride horses into downtown Mankato, Minn., on the day after Christmas to attend a ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the 12-26-1862 hanging of 38 warriors at the end of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 -- the largest mass execution in American history. The honor ride began on Dec. 10 on the Lower Brule Reservation in South Dakota, a 340-mile journey. Temperatures were about 5 degrees above zero as the riders arrived in Mankato.
