DuPont Company Endorses Marriage Equality

AP photoAs the Supreme Court prepares to take on two large same-sex marriage cases, the DuPont Company announced its support of efforts to pass a marriage equality bill in Delaware.

"Our support of marriage equality shows our employees and the community that our commitment to respect for people and equality extends beyond our walls," said DuPont Senior Vice President Benito Cachinero-Sanchez. "Our inclusiveness is what allows us to develop and grow, and it reinforces our position as a leading employer."

DuPont, which has offered benefits to same-sex couples since 2004, becomes the latest organization to join a broad-based coalition that supports the push to make Delaware the latest state to allow gay marriage.

Delaware governor Jack Markell also supports the effort, and said last year he expects Delaware to take up the cause of marriage equality in 2013, saying marriage equality in Delaware is "inevitable." He also brought it up in his inaugural speech back in January.

“We will advance the cause of liberty, equality and dignity in our time,” he said. “Our state will be a welcoming place to live, to love and to raise families for all who choose to call Delaware home.”
