CEA interview with Chris Murphy

The CEA endorses Chris Murphy

The Endorsement Process:

Endorsing candidates who support children, teachers, and public education

CEA endorses candidates, regardless of their party affiliation, based on their established records and/or stated positions on the issues that matter to and directly affect students, teachers, and public education.

The teacher-elected CEA PAC (political action committee) is the representative body responsible for screening candidates and making recommendations to the CEA board of directors for endorsement of candidates, but any CEA member can offer input into the process.

Initial endorsements for candidates seeking reelection are based on incumbents' voting records, their responses to candidate questionnaires, and their working relationships with CEA's lobbying team, local association leaders, and members.

CEA asks new candidates to complete a CEA PAC-developed candidate questionnaire regarding issues facing teachers and public education. All candidates registered with the Secretary of the State's Office are invited to complete a questionnaire. CEA PAC reviews each questionnaire and determines whether to recommend endorsing a candidate or to conduct a screening interview before making a decision.

After reviewing CEA PAC's recommendations, the CEA board of directors votes on final endorsements based on the above-named criteria and what is in the best interest of public education and the teaching profession.
