Bachmann wants an islamophobic witch hunt

Bachmann and three others want McCarthyesque witch hunt into any and all Muslims in our government and all Islamic organizations in the US

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) loves conspiracy theories. The scarier, the better. Her latest involves the super-duper scary Muslim Brotherhood, the Obama Administration and the terrorist infiltration of our government.

Bachmann and four other Representatives want to know to what extent the Obama Administration has coddled terrorists, given them trusted government positions and, generally, not been Islamophobic enough. In letters to the Inspector Generals of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, Department of State as well as the Director of National Intelligence, Bachmann and et al want to know how deeply our government has been infiltrated by Muslims. Since they believe that all Muslims are terrorists, this will show much control the Muslim Brotherhood has over our government.

"The national security of our country depends on getting straight answers from the Inspectors General to the questions we posed in these letters," Rep. Bachmann said. "The Muslim Brotherhood is not shy about their call for jihad against the United States. We seek answers through these letters because we will not tolerate this group and its affiliates holding positions of power in our government or influencing our nation's leaders."

"Evidence indicates that this administration continues to bow before groups associated with the goal of 'destroying Western civilization from within,' and about whom the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has found that there is plenty of evidence indicating that they support terrorism," Rep. [Louie] Gohmert [R-TX] said.

Gohmert is infamous for his "Terror Babies" conspiracy theory that terrorists are sending pregnant women to the US to give birth to baby terrorists who will later rise up to attack America. Another of her cohorts on this conspiracy theory is Rep Trent Franks (R-AZ) who once called Obama an "enemy of humanity."

Here are the three questions they ask each Inspector General:

  1. Within the programs and operations of the establishment ofr which you serve as Inspector General, has the Muslim Brotherhood -- or has any individual associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, directly or indirectly -- ever renounced the "civilization jihad" objective of the Muslim Brotherhood in North America.
  2. How is the Muslim Brotherhood active in the "programs and operations" of the establishment for which you serve as Inspector General -- (a) through what specific individual and organizational agens, (b) whether or not the specified individuals involved (e.g., Mohamed Magid, President of ISNA) are U.S. citizens, and (c) what is its/their relationship with the international Muslim Brotherhood, whose "Supreme Guide," Mohammed Badie, in September 2010 openly called for jihad by all "the Arab and Muslim people," against the United States?
  3. In light of the statutory duty of Inspector General "to provide a means for keeping the head of the establishment and the Congress fully and currently informed about problems and deficiencies relating to the administration of such programs and operations and the necessity for and progress of corrective action" (IG Act, Section 2(3)), we request that you recommend in your report "corrective action," consistent with the Constitution and laws of the United States, to ensure that no Muslim Brotherhood- associated entity or individual is placed into a position of honor or trust within the programs and operations of the [ insert Dept here].

Specific accusations against each Department below the fold ...
Here's several examples from the letters.

Dept of Defense

They believe the DoD has used the Muslim Brotherhood to find Muslim chaplains for the military.

The DoD didn't call the Fort Hood shootings an act of Jihadist terrorism.

The DoD built mosques.

And this doozy of a bullet point:

A Counter-Insurgency (COIN) strategy that -- especially as practiced in Afghanistana at presnet in an attempt to win "hearth and minds" there -- involves myriad acts of submission that are endangering our servicemen and women, and emboldening our enemies. These include: restrictive rules of engagement that, among other things, subordinate force protection to minimizing civilian casualties, even though the non-combatants are routinely put in harm's way by our foes; unnecessarily exposing US personnel to hostile actions and disease; and submitting to local customs, culture, and more with possibly lasting harm to the values and good order and discipline of our military, and the American society it protects.
(Excerpted from the DOD letter)

In other words, attempting to win the "hearts and minds" by adapting local customs, i.e., not behaving like an insulting, arrogant American prick, will lead to damage to the military because soldiers will go native. Or something.

Sheesh, pretty weak, no?

Dept of State

Allowed Tariq Ramadan to enter the US to commit crimes of "proselytization, recruitment, indoctrination and fundraising as well as other forms of promotion of totalitarian supremacist Islamic doctrine known as shariah."

"Assorted efforts undertaken in the name of "engaging" the Muslim Brotherhood both in Egypt and the United States. Lately, these have amounted to de facto US recognition of the Muslim Brotherhood, ans also realization of the Brotherhood's goals."
(Excerpted from the Dept of State letter)

BTW, the Brotherhood looks to have won the Egyptian election. What will Bachmann say when we dialog with the Egyptian government now?

Homeland Security

They are angry that violent, radical christian fundamentalists are also considered terrorists. In their minds, anyone who kills for Jesus can't be a terrorist. Or something.

A DHS "Lexicon" that obscures, rather than clarifies, the threat we face from jihadism. Its approved words effectively equate those perpetrating this threat with ones said to arise from "Christian patriots," "Constitutionalist" and "militia extremists."
(Excerpted from DHS letter)

They are also angry that Muslim social groups in the US are not considered terrorists. In their minds, all Muslims are terrorists and all Muslim organizations can be tied to some terrorist organization if you simply look hard enough.

Perhaps in the same way that Bachmann could be tied to the violent, christian fundamentalist militia movement. Some associate of hers has bound to have been in contact with a militia member at some point over the years.

Dept of Justice

They haven't prosecuted any and all Muslim organizations operating in the US. In their beliefs, all Muslims are terrorists.

Prioritizing hate crimes perpetrated against Americans of Middle Eastern decent instead of arresting Arabs for the crime of Breathing While Arab.

Interacting with Muslim organizations of any kind. Since they believe that all Muslims are terrorists, it follows that any Muslim organization must be allied with or a subsidiary of terrorist organizations.

Inspector General of the Director of National Intelligence

They don't accuse the DNI of anything specific. They just want the IG of the DNI to answer the three questions.
