Bachmann: US sovereignty threatened by global conspiracy

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has a new twist on an old conspiracy theory. One of her favorite conspiracies to tell everyone about is that the United Nations is behind some insidious plot to do something horrible to America.

This time the UN will institute a cap-n-trade tax that has something to do with an global army and take over America. Or something.

U.S. national sovereignty is threatened by those who wish to subject it to "global authority," Rep. Michele Bachmann told a tea party group in St. Cloud Thursday night.

Bachmann also suggested proposals to implement a cap-and-trade system are tied to efforts by the United Nations to impose a worldwide tax.

"There are efforts - I know it sounds far out - but there are people, there are organizations, who would love to see nothing more than the United States be one of many nations on an equal level with a global governance where we have a global authority, whether it's a U.N. or something, that's making the decisions on a global level," Bachmann said.

"There's really two things that you need for global governance. That's an international army and a tax," Bachmann continued. "And the U.N. is trying everything that they can to have a worldwide tax. They want to have it. The cap and trade is really their way of getting it."
