Affordable Care Act Individual Mandate Upheld by SCOTUS

We will be updating this post all morning with analysis as the Affordable Care Act opinion comes out.

9:11 am: Limitations on Medicaid provision.  This was the provision that was argued as either forcing states to participate or argued as an expansion of an extant federal program. (EG)

9:16 a.m. While Edward parses the opinions, I'll just say this is great news for the 25% of uninsured Texans and ~129 million Americans with pre-existing conditions that can rest a little easier that they will have access to quality, affordable healthcare. (KH)

9:18 a.m. From SCOTUSblog reading the opinion:

"Our precedent demonstrates that Congress had the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000A under the taxing power, and that Section 5000A need not be read to do more than impose a tax. This is sufficient to sustain it. "
